Dataset with radiation variables as described in the Øivind Hodnebrog, Gunnar Myhre, Caroline Jouan, Timothy Andrews, Piers M. Forster, Hailing Jia, Norman G. Loeb, Dirk J. L. Olivié, David Paynter, Johannes Quaas, Shiv Priyam Raghuraman, and Michael Schulz: "Recent reductions in aerosol emissions have increased Earth's energy imbalance", Communications Earth & Environment 2024.

Data organised, uploaded and curated by by Øivind Hodnebrog (oivind.hodnebrog@cicero.oslo.no)

Data are organised in folders for each of the four models HadGem3, ICON-HAM, NorESM2, CESM2.
All have ran the experiments BASE, AERO2000, ALL2000, in addition NorESM2 has also ran
an extra experiment called ANTHRO2000
Details on each model and the organisation of the data in the model folder are listed below

Data are available for three ensemble members (r1i1p1f3, r2i1p1f3, r3i1p1f3) and the
three main experiments have all been run from 2000 through 2020 though with slightly different names:
amip (i.e. BASE), amip-constantAER (i.e. AERO2000) and amip-constantALL (i.e. ALL2000),
Data are cmorised and named following the CMIP6 naming scheme
varname_Timeresolution_Modelname_experiment_ensemblemember_gridversion_starttime-endtime.nc

All data files lie directly under the top model folder

ICON-HAM

ICON-Ham was run by Hailing Jia
Data are available for three ensemble members (esm0, esm1, esm2, esm3) and the
three main experiments have all been run from September 1999 through December 2020
(monthly data are outputted in the first day of the next month so timestamps run
from 1991001 to 20200101) though with slightly different names:
base (i.e. BASE), exp01 (i.e. AERO2000) and exp02 (i.e. ALL2000).
Data are in a single file per experiment and ensemble member named on the form
icon_hammoz_experiment_ensemblemember_v2.nc each with variables:
reffl, rsdt, rsut, rsutcs, rlut, rlutcs, rsds, rsdcs, rlds, rldscs, rsus, rsuscs, rlus, ts, clt,
pr, cllvi, zg, ps, pfull, ta, hus, clw, hur, cl and tau_2d_550nm
All data are on monthly time resolution and are organised in subfolders per experiment
In addition the top model folder includes a grid description file for the model:
icon_grid_0005_R02B04_G.nc

NorESM2
--------
NorESM2 was run by Dirk J. L. Olivié
Data are available for six ensemble members (m01, m02, m03, m04, m05, m06) and all
four experiments have been run from 2000 through 2019 though with slightly different
names:
base (i.e. BASE), aer2000 (i.e. AERO2000), all2000 (i.e. ALL2000), anthro2000 (i.e. ANTHRO2000)
Data are in organised in subfolders per experiment and ensemble member with names on the form:
NorESM2.newceds.experiment.ensemblemember
There is a single file per monthly output variables with names on the form:
NorESM2.newceds.experiment.ensemblemember.variablename.200001-201912.nc
Available variables are:

CESM2
------
CESM2 was run by Øivind Hodnebrog
Data are available for 20 ensemble members (n01, n02, n03, ..., n19, n20) for five experiments
all run from 2000 through 2019.
baseCEDS21 (i.e. base), baseCEDS6 (an extra base experiments with the CMIP6 version of CEDS assuming ssp245 from 2015),
constAERO (i.e. AERO2000), constAEROBB (like AERO2000 but with constant biomass burning aerosol emissions as well)
and constALL (i.e ALL2000)
Data are organised in folders per experiment and ensemble member with names on this form:
EEIv1ensemblemember_experiment
Inside each folder there is data in one file per variable with names on the form:
varname_Timeresolution_Modelname_experiment_ensemblemember_gridversion_starttime-endtime.nc
Available variables are (all on monthly resolution):
cllvi, clt, od550aer, rlut, rlutcs, rsdt, rsut, rsutcs
In addition to these outputs there are also fixed seasurface temperature runs with year 2000
climatology run for 60 years (2005 through 2064) with four versions different experiments
for different anthropogenic aerosol emissions levels:
AER2001 (aerosol emissions like in CEDS21 for 2001), AER2019 (aerosol emissions like in CEDS21 2019),
AERCMIP62001 (aerosol emissions like in CEDS for CMIP6 in 2001) and
AERCMIP62019 (aerosol emissions like in ssp245 for CMIP6 in 2019)
Here folder names are on the form:
